One of the things we did while in Vancouver over the summer was take an afternoon to visit Cathedral Grove.  It is a fairly large area of the island with some of the biggest trees in the world.   The pictures kind of tell the story but standing in the middle of these giants certainly made us feel small.

It is a small endangered part of the ecosystem that they are desperately trying to protect.  You can read more about the grove on this link.  Cathedral Grove, BC

One of the things that I remember most from my visits to the Pacific Northwest as a child were these large banana slugs.  To say they are big is an understatement and they are so unlike anything I grew up with in Southern California or what we have here in Northern Virginia.  Kids love these things and my daughter was no exception.  On every hike or path it was our job to try and find these giant slugs.

Next week we will be talking all about Orcas or Killer Whales and I will be sharing all about our up close encounter with these fascinating animals.
