Travel Tuesday – Key West

Travel Tuesday – Key West

Our family has been to Key West a couple of times and it is such a great part of the country to visit.  If you live on the West Coast and your want to visit a tropical location without leaving the country, the Florida Keys are the place to go.  We always fly into Miami or Ft. Lauderdale and drive down.  The drive is incredible and there are lots of little places to stop along the way.  The first time we went, it was before we had our daughter and we decided we wanted to go swim with the dolphins.  We chose to go to the Dolphin Research Center where we could get up close and personal and support Dolphin Research and preservation at the same time.  We wanted to do something memorable for our little girl when we took her there a few years ago and went back to the same place so she could get some one on one time with a dolphin of her own.

One thing I loved about Key West were the clouds.  They were big and puffy and gorgeous against the blue sky.  I made my husband pull over more than once so I could watch the clouds.keywest_2

One day we went on a charter snorkling trip with Danger Cruises.  It was a group of about 20 of us and we set out from Key West to snorkel for the day.  We had worked hard with our 5 year old to teach her how to snorkle in a pool and she is a great swimmer so we knew she would have fun.  However, we failed to let her know that the water would be salty and not like the clean pool water we practiced in at home.  The salt was  total shock to her but eventually she realized that she wouldn’t see any fish if she didn’t go in. DCIM100GOPRO

She was rewarded with a first hand encounter with a shark.  She swam right toward that thing with no fear at all.
